Word Lists

It wouldn't help you very much, of course, to spend lots of time trying to learn long lists of words by translation, especially in alphabetical order.......(you might just fall asleep!). However, having lists of important words available can quickly identify which words you already know - and looking through them quickly will give you a good idea of how much time you need to spend developing your vital vocabulary skills.

Lots of other good word lists are also freely available in the internet - as shown in the links below. 

•   Dolch (B) - 220 of the most common words.
•   Fry (B) - 300 "Instant Sight Words".
• "First 500 most common words" (B) words 1 - 500
• "Second 500 most common words" (B) words 501 - 1000
• "Third 500 most common words" (B) words 1001 - 1500
• "Fourth 500 most common words) words 1501 - 2000" (BI
•   Common Regular Verbs (BI) - 600 of the most widely used. 
•   The General Service List (BI) - 2,284 useful words selected in 1953
•   The Oxford 3000 List (BI) - 3000 of today's most useful words.
•   Word Count (BIA) - a long list that's well worth a quick look.
•   Academic Word List (IA) - in sublists
•   5000 words for the SAT Test (IA)
•   Example words for the TOEFL Test (IA)
